The village of Balderson, and later the cheese factory, was named after Sergeant
John Balderson of the British army in the late 1860's. Eighteen years ago, the
cheese factory was purchased by Ault Foods. Cheese making in Balderson
Village stopped and was transferred to Winchester. Balderson cheese continued to
become a world brand and the original Balderson Village location remained open
as a retail outlet.
In 2005 when Bill North and Botho von Hampeln purchased the property, they
realized there was significant opportunity with only 10% of the building being
occupied. Gradually, the premises have been converted into a fascinating destination
type retail mall dominating the village of Balderson.

Botho von Hampeln, President
Botho immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1955, becoming a citizen 5 years
later. A successful business executive in
telecommunications, he fell in love
with Balderson and being a man with vision, took the opportunity to turn
something that was good into something great.
